When I do the underwater walk, I usually do this with the following steps:
inhale above the surface
hold my breath and dive down towards the bottom of the pool
at the same time, I exhale about 20-30% of the water in my lungs, so that I don't float up to the surface right away. This part is especially tricky, since I have to find the right amount of buoyancy to touch the water surface exactly. Not too high to break the surface, not too low to not walk on it as I pass it. In this video it actually worked out perfectly.
