In today's video we take a look at the North American pitcher plant sarracenia purpurea and sarracenia farnhamii and go over care and growing outdoors all year round in the UK. They are much hardier than you would think! I have planted them in the bog area of my large pond and Waterfalls in the jungle area of the garden.

Generally Sarracenia farnhamii, like many Sarracenia species, is typically frost-hardy.
And can survive temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F) in its native environment
some cultivars may need protection from extreme winter conditions.
Sarracenia farnhamii is well-suited for outdoor bog gardens or containers, as long as the soil remains moist.

They prefer full sun and a consistently moist, acidic growing medium, like peat moss.

Sarracenia plants require a period of dormancy during the winter months,
In regions with very cold winters, Sarracenia farnhamii can be overwintered in an unheated garage or shed.
