The talk focuses on giving the audience a better idea of what mining means to society, some examples of how the mining industry produces minerals and metals from rock, and what it is like to have a career in mining.

John Meyer has been in the mining industry for more than 30 years.  He has held senior leadership roles in mine permitting and development, underground and open pit mining engineering, and reclamation and mine closure.  Meyer has worked on some of the highest-profile gold projects in the Americas including Barrick’s Goldstrike Mine in Nevada, Lundin’s
Fruta del Norte Mine in Ecuador, and Perpetua’s Stibnite Gold Project here in Idaho. Meyer is on the Board of Directors for IMA (Idaho Mining Association), he is on the Executive Committee of the Boise chapter of SME (Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration) and he is currently the Vice President of Engineering & Development for Revival Gold. Meyer holds a B.S. in Civil
Engineering and a B.S. in Geophysics, both from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
