Do you want your students to master letter-sound correspondences in the most effective and efficient way? The following research-based instructional routine using embedded picture mnemonics gives children the tools to learn and retain letter sound s easily and enjoyably. In this video, we guide your students through these 5 simple steps:

1) Students will see 4 interesting photographs of words with initial s and name each picture.
2) Students will be asked to pay attention to what their mouths are doing when they make the sound.
3) Students will make the sound while seeing a picture mnemonic of the keyword embedded in the letter.
4) Students will follow along as correct letter formation is modeled.
5) Students will be asked to choose the picture that begins with the /s/ sound.
