Dinesh Chandra Majumder was a revolutionary associated with 'Yugantar' revolutionary group.He was born on 19 th May 1907 in Basirhat.After completing his formal studies from Basirhat High School he came to Calcutta for further studies.Anuja Charan Sengupta was a close associate of Dinesh.Anuja introduced Dinesh to Rasiklal Das,a member of 'Yugantar' revolutionary group who eventually recruit both of them as member of 'Yugantar'.Dinesh was actively involved with physical exercise since his student life and later learned to play Stick and Dagger in Simla Byam Samity of Calcutta.He used to train young members of 'Chatri Sangha' like Kalyani Das,Kamala Dasgupta,Suhasini Ganguly and many others.At the behest of party Dinesh alongwith Anuja,Atul Sen and Shailen Niyogi was deployed to assasinate the then Police Commisionar of Calcutta,Sir Charles Tegart on 25 th August 1930 at Dalhousie Square of Calcutta.Anuja succumbed to his injuries and Dinesh was arrested after the failed assasination attempt on Tegart.A special tribunal sentenced life imprisonment for Dinesh.But he escaped from Midnapore Central Jail alongwith Sachin Kargupta and Sushil Dashgupta in February 1932.Dinesh was pined for action.His association with Satkari Banerjee proved useful.With his help Dinesh made successive masterplan for assasination of Sir Alfred Watson,the then editor of 'The Statesman'.But Watson survived both of them.Dinesh took shelter in Chandannagar after police search operations intensified for Dinesh.While the hide out French Police Commisioner Monsieur Quinn was shot dead by Dinesh.With his intetion to revive the party,Dinesh withdrawn Rs 27000 from Grindlays Bank with the help of Kanai Banerjee.Finally on 22 nd May 1933 Dinesh alongwith Nalini Das and Jagadananda Mukherjee was arrested after a bloody clash with Police force at Cornwallis street.Dinesh was sentenced to death.He died on the gallows on 9 th June 1934.
