The Old Road To Everest | Jiri to Lukla via Pikey Peak | 13 Days Solo Trek in Nepal

The original route to Everest Base Camp started in Jiri. It takes one through the Middle Hills of Nepal, an area called Solu Khumbu. I did the trek via Pikey Peak, a destination growing in popularity for views of Mt. Everest.

I barely saw another trekker and was often the sole guest not only in a lodge but the village. The trekking route is seldom used since flights to Lukla started. I did fly back from Lukla though, not being able to bear the mule trains and their dung.

I had just completed a 19-day trek of Kanchenjunga North and South base camps, and rested a few days before taking the bus to Jiri to start the 13-day journey.
