LPR Camera Long Distance License Plate Recognition

CCTV Camera Pros recently tested our new Viewtron LPR camera by installing it on a home and an extreme angle and long distance. Ideally, LPR cameras should be installed low to the ground - as close to license plate height as possible. And, they should be installed with as minimal of a vertical angle as possible.

A common question that CCTV Camera Pros get from customers is can an LPR camera can be installed on a house. We usually tell customers that license plate recognition usually will not work if you install it on a house that is 35 feet away from the road due to the extreme horizontal and vertical angle to the license plate capture zone. However, we were surprised when we tested our new Viewtron LPR-IP4 at a distance of 110 feet from the LPR detection zone and installed over night feet high.

Please note that Mike's house is not exactly perpendicular to the road, as most homes are. The road in front of Mike's house does have a curve, as you can see in the video demo. This helps lessen the vertical angle somewhat. Another things that helped in this case is the camera's 8 to 32m lens. Mike angled the camera as far down the street as possible and zoomed the lens in all the way. This also lessened the horizontal angle.
