Описание к видео Walking Through the Horrors My Savage Ancestors Created Shining a Light on America’s Lies Part I

This series begins inside a small, overlooked museum in Baltimore: The Great Blacks in Wax Museum.

What I saw there shattered the stories America tells itself.

Inside a narrow, dim room, human beings were displayed as they were transported to America—chained together, packed into the walls of ships. Placards described conditions too often softened or omitted: starvation, disease, bodies chained to corpses, lives treated as cargo.

This was not a horror film.
Not from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Not a work of fiction.

These were the true deeds of my savage ancestors. Our ancestors.

The shock was not only intellectual—it was bodily. The kind of horror that freezes you, then forces you to keep looking because turning away would be another lie.

A Black woman nearby said quietly, “And they call us savages.”

Without planning to speak, I answered: “The people who did this were the savages.”

In that moment, horror erased distance. Not understanding everything—but refusing denial.

A month later, I returned to photograph the building itself. From the outside, it’s easy to miss. No marble columns. No national reverence. You could drive past it without ever being asked to look.

In Washington, the Holocaust Museum stands with somber grandeur, demanding remembrance.
Germany faces its atrocities.
America must face its own.

This series shines a light on what America hides in plain sight—from genocide and enslavement to the racism that persists today.

Healing cannot begin without truth.
And truth requires looking.
