In this video, inspired by a barbershop tag my brother showed me called “Cornbread” (by ‪@TimWaurickMusic‬ ), I break down one of the most important principles for sustaining notes as a singer: efficient vocal cord adduction.

Instead of letting air just blow through the vocal cords (which wastes breath and cuts phrases short), proper adduction creates a narrow opening where air pressure builds up and is released efficiently. That efficient use of breath not only allows you to sustain notes much longer, but also gives you resonance, volume, and that brilliant squillo every singer wants.

To make the concept crystal clear, I use a simple balloon metaphor:
🎈 If you let go of a balloon, the air escapes in a second.
🎈 But if you pinch the opening (like the vocal cords adducting), the air releases in a controlled, squeaky stream—and you can sustain it for much longer.

By applying this principle in singing, you’ll discover how breath efficiency unlocks greater power, longer phrases, and a more resonant sound.
