DS Kysten is a historic steamboat that operates in the Tønsberg area of Norway. It is the oldest and most original coastal steamboat in the country, and it offers a unique and nostalgic experience for its passengers. Here are some facts about DS Kysten:

DS Kysten was built in 1909 at the Trondheim Mechanical Workshop. It costed 160,000 kroner and was originally named Dronning Maud, after the queen of Norway at the time.
DS Kysten was designed as a modern route boat that could carry passengers and cargo between Trondheim and Namsos. It had a steam engine that could produce 250 horsepower and a speed of 11 knots. It also had electric lights, a saloon, a dining room, and a ladies’ cabin.

DS Kysten changed owners and names several times throughout its history. It was renamed DS Kysten in 1928, when it was bought by the Coastal Steamship Company. It also served as a hospital ship during World War II, a ferry boat, and a lodging ship.

DS Kysten was restored and preserved by a group of enthusiasts who formed the DS Kysten Foundation in 1984. They spent many years and millions of Norwegian kroner to bring the steamboat back to its original condition and appearance. The restoration was completed in 2013.

DS Kysten now operates as a tourist attraction and a cultural heritage site. It offers regular boat trips from Tønsberg pier to the scenic islands and fjords around Nøtterøy. The boat trips last for about four hours and include food, drinks, and entertainment. The boat can accommodate up to 99 passengers and can also be rented for private events.
