An accused who was killed last night in Karachi was identified as a key associate of Lyari gang leader Bahadur PMT. It was reported that the deceased was involved in collecting extortion money from traders and industrialists and was killed in an encounter with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

According to the SIU, they received information about the presence of an extortion gang near the Lyari River. When they conducted a raid, the extortionists opened fire. In the retaliatory firing, one extortionist was killed, while his accomplices managed to escape.

The killed extortionist was identified as Shafee Muhammad, who turned out to be an important aide of Lyari gang leader Bahadur PMT, who is currently hiding abroad.

The SIU stated that a 9mm pistol and a mobile phone were recovered from the extortionist killed near the Lyari River. Important evidence related to extortion was retrieved from the mobile phone.

It was further reported that the deceased extortionist had demanded extortion money amounting to Rs. 2 million from a local trader. The accused was wanted by the police in encounter cases and other serious criminal cases.

According to the SIU, the killed extortionist had been arrested in 2023 for possession of explosive material and had resumed extortion activities after his release. He was killed in a police encounter.
