Описание к видео Sotheby's shows off collection of LatAm art up for sale

(14 Nov 2008) SHOTLIST
AP Television
New York, 14 Nov 2008
1. Wide exterior Sotheby's New York auction house
2. Close sign reading "Latin American Art"
3. Wide shot exhibit room
4. Mid shot painting by Rufino Tamayo, "Autorretrato"
5. Tilt up "Autorretrato"
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Marysol Nieves, Assistant Vice President of Latin American Art at Sotheby's:
"One of the key highlights in the sale is the work that is behind me. It's an extraordinary monumental piece by the Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo. It was painted in 1955, originally commissioned by the Bank of the Southwest in Houston, Texas and until just recently it was hanging on extended loan at the Dallas Museum of Art. It is the largest of the murals that Tamayo painted in the United States and it is the only one that is still in private hands, so it's quite an extraordinary opportunity to be able to offer this work in our sale."
7. Wide shot Tamayo's Vinylite and sand on Canvas, "America"
8. Pan of "America"
9. Wide of "America"
10. SOUNDBITE (English) Marysol Nieves, Assistant Vice President of Latin American Art at Sotheby's:
"This is actually a great opportunity and moment for those collectors that still have the resources to be able to invest in these works, to be able to get works of extremely high quality, works that are historically significant, at a very good price as well."
11. Push in mixed media work by Cildo Meireles, "Coracao Faquir-1"
12. Pan exhibition room
13. Mid of painting by Remedios Varo, "Planta Insumisa"
STORYLINE
SOTHEBY'S LATIN AMERICAN ART PREVIEW
Sotheby's auction house in New York on Friday showed its collection of Latin American art ahead of a sale expected to be held next week.
The collection includes a mural by Rufino Tamayo, entitled "America."
Estimated at 7 (m) million US dollars to 9 (m) million US dollars, it is one of five Tamayo murals still in private hands.
Marysol Nieves, the Assistant Vice President of Latin American Art, said the work is the largest mural Tamayo painted in the US, and called it an "extraordinary opportunity" to be able to offer it in the Sotheby's sale.
Another favourite in the sale is a Tamayo piece entitled "Autorretrato."
It is a self-portrait of the artist that was painted in 1931 and is estimated at 400-thousand to 600-thousand US dollars.
The Latin American sale will also include works of art by contemporary and modern artists like Cildo Meireles, Sergio Camargo, and Sandra Cinto.
"Coracao Faquir-1" by Meireles is considered just as symbolic today as it was nearly a decade ago when it was created.
It is a heart made out of wood that is pierced by hundreds of nails.
Surrealist artist Remedios Varo painted "Planta Insumisa" (In Submissive Plant) in 1961.
Experts say it depicts Varo's life-long fascination with nature and science.
It is estimated at 1.4 to 1.8 (m) million US dollars.
Nieves said despite the financial crisis, it is still a good opportunity for collectors to invest in high quality Latin art which is historically significant.
