Exciting races as Malmö competes, with incredible race controversy involving possible attempted sabotage! and capsizes! Ok, maybe it was just 'Trouble Steering' or 'We Wanted a Bath!' ha ha!

Video evidence to help solve the mystery. You be the judge of what really happened. Which was great fun and great racing, regardless of any ‘mysteries’!

Silver Stockholm. An appeal has been lodged, seeking clarification if one team is really allowed to field two boats in the same competition race… especially when they are so good! No, well done Stockholm for taking both Gold and Silver.

While Malmo didn’t win that race, at least we didn’t sightsee along the way, like the other team who came last. It seems paddling forward the whole race seems to be a smarter strategy than trying to win by paddling sideways, or maybe trying to take a shortcut. Lesson learned!

In the middle of the national dragon boat race. Where did that craft come from?
He's trying to hit the Stockholm boat! He’s going for the rear of the boat, which is the weak spot, where the crew can’t see as well, and he can knock the steerer off balance, or disable the steering oar.

Could be revenge for Malmö team capsizing and losing the race?

SCANDAL!

On the Men’s 2000m race, our MKK Team requested a styrmann (Steerman or helmsman) from another team. This is not so unusual. What is very unusual is capsizing, let alone in a national competition!
Of course there was no funny business going on, but for any detectives out there wanting to investigate further, there are a few small clues worth … well, considering!
So

1. Our Styrmann was actually from a competing team
2. We were gaining very slightly on the boat in front when we capsized
3. We capsized at the furthest section of the race, suspiciously far from the cameras and officials
4. The Styrmann may have been the first person who went overboard

Perhaps we need to look closely at the official video replay, and let you be the judge if there was any ‘funny business’ going on!

So… What caused the dramatic capsize of our dragon boat, at speed, in the national competition race? Equipment malfunction? Loch Ness Monster? Obstruction in the water? Styrmann secretly helping the other team?
Is this the Big Swedish Dragon Boat SCANDAL of 2021?!
Regardless what actually happened, we ALL had loads of fun. It was determined that in future though, we would decide to not stop for a bath half way through a race, and decided to complete all the laps next time.
What a fabulous adventure!

In the official inquiry though, it was determined that the only mischief was there being too many winter bathers in the crew, who just could not resist having a small bath midway in the race. All have agreed to NOT bathe during races anymore, as our plan B strategy to win is now to complete ALL the laps in future.
