Giuseppe Verdi: LES VÊPRES SICILIENNES (Making-of)

For his first commission for the Opéra de Paris Giuseppe Verdi demanded a libretto that was “immense, passionate and original” ES VÊPRES SICILIENNES is all of that as well as an opera with political explosiveness since it points to an injustice that was current at the time: the colonisation of Algeria by France. Director Olivier Py's production starts precisely here.
