How To Get Ritchie Blackmore's Sound - No No No Intros from '71 Beat Club Show

Описание к видео How To Get Ritchie Blackmore's Sound - No No No Intros from '71 Beat Club Show

Short video using a Marshall Major modified with my take on the factory work that Ken Flegg did at Blackmore's request, and a modified Hornby Skewes-type booster build. This is the base setup that I believe was used all through Deep Purple's MK2 period for every album, live and studio.

The German Beat Club TV show was recorded in September 1971, a very short period of time before the making of Machine Head, and provides us with a lot of clear sound samples under different guitar volume conditions, which is great for cross-checking if amp and booster settings are correct. In Take 01 the guitar's at 8.5. In Take 02 it changes all the time.
The original video also gives us the main mic type and position, which takes away a lot of guessing and plays a big role in delivering this sound. A Sennheiser MD421 can be seen pointing to the lower right speaker of the 1982B cab in "Highway Star" from the same show. The mic is at an angle and it appears not to be touching the cloth.
The other microphones in the room are also a big factor in capturing Blackmore's sound -but there's not much I can do about it at the moment.

Playing is approximate. No EQ was added in post, just some reverb. Backing track is made with bits and pieces from the original audio.

This is the Reverb listing for the custom-built treble booster with my take on the mods done to Blackmore's Hornby Skewes unit:

For the 100W Major build with the same mods of the amp on this video, please ask in the Comments section.

Thanks for watching!
