This small video shows how to achieve a very quick approach to a station using the planet's gravity as a speed brake, the correct alignment between planet and station to have a better angle to the station's gate, the correct use of the turbo and the vertical thrusters to brake "vertically" and using the ship's shield for a final brake maneuver in just 0:43 minutes.

Notes for the close to planet gravity brake: don't be too fast, when you can clearly see the planet and try to find a direct line between you, the planet's border and the station, accelerate for 1-2 seconds and fly outside the circle around the planet, but close to it - this decreases your speed immediately - then go back to 50% speed and the station should be in range very soon.

Notes for the close to station approach: engage the booster 1-2 times, correct the angle that the gate is approximately in a 45 degrees angle to your ship and deploy the landing gear below 4-5km distance, set speed to 50% (optimum, white bar) for maximum maneuverability, pull up and fire the vertical thrusters until you see the gate, again go to full speed (no booster) and fly into the station. If you want and if your shield's can take it, use them to brake at the ground and slide to the final parking position which makes a lot of fun, too.

This works perfect for a heavy freighter like the Lakon 7, other ships may need some adjustment in this approch scenario.
