There are several ways to submit a formal mortgage application. And although the exact requirements will differ from one Lender to another, the main types of information needed are very similar.
Mortgages can be applied for directly with many Banks, Building Societies, and other Lenders. Or the Application can be submitted via a Mortgage Broker. There are several benefits to using a Broker, that can be explored separately.
The type of information needed at Application stage includes:
1) Personal details of all applicants and anticipated future inhabitants of the property.
2) Details about the property (address, age, construction type) that the mortgage will be held against.
3) Documentation such as proof of ID, address, funds, earnings, bank statements etc.
4) Amount of deposit available and information about the source of where the deposit came from.
5) Other information may be needed depending on the type of mortgage or scheme being used e.g., Guarantor info is needed for a Guarantor mortgage.
6) Initial fee payments where relevant, such as initial valuation fee.
On acceptance of a mortgage, Lenders will typically issues a European Standardised Information Sheet, which includes useful information about the mortgage terms, payment amounts, fees and charges etc.
