The Story of English, hosted by Robert MacNeil, was an Emmy-winning 1986 BBC/PBS documentary series about the development of the English language. This episode discusses the influence of Shakespeare and the King James Bible, as well as the journey of English to the North American continent with English colonization.

Starting at about 10:31, about 41 seconds of content has been trimmed to avoid a copyright block. The excised portion shows a BBC production of The Tempest in which Michael Hordern (as Prospero) recites the following soliloquy:

Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And, like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on, and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep.
