Sticky Wicket '1920'S Chicago Style' Drum Solo

Описание к видео Sticky Wicket '1920'S Chicago Style' Drum Solo

In September 2023 I went to visit my friend Tim at his museum- Northup Drums Museum, Oneonta, New York. I had a fantastic time playing this Ludwig and Ludwig traps kit from the 1920's.

This was a lovely little kit with a rare 5 cow bell set up, I particularly liked the chinese tom toms- I love that sound!

This video was an improvisation in the moment after a nice cup of English breakfast tea!

The opening phrase is based on a Gene Krupa lick from the 1920's that I like.

The low boy cymbals have a lovely clean 'chicking' sound and were a joy to play! The Ludwig and Ludwig 2 piece brass shell snare drums of that era have always been a favourite of mine. They sound so crisp but do not have any unwanted overtones. This I believe is due to the nature of the 2 piece shell and the rolled bearing edges.

I have seen the 1920's sizzle cymbal with tambourine style jingles many times in books but I had never played one! After playing this one I was so inspired I bought one of my very own :)

I hope you enjoyed this video, please don't forget to like and subscribe!
See you next time!
