Why Star Entertainment is allowed to continue operating despite damning inquiries | The Business

Two inquiries, named the Bell inquiries into Star Entertainment have found it's not suitable to hold a casino license, but the company is able to continue operating under a range of strict conditions with a suspended licence. The NSW Independent Casino Commission (NICC) hit The Star with a $15 million fine, and will reassess whether it can regain its licence in March 2025. NICC Chief Commissioner Philip Crawford joined The Business to explain the Commission's decision. He says transparency and accountability have improved since the appointment of new CEO Steve McCann, but more work needs to be done before the casino is fit to hold its licence.
