It's a tremendous honour to be named N.T Australian of the year.

It gives me a great opportunity to take my messages to Canberra on Australia Day.

And to put rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in our history books.

The medical problem has long been solved. What we need today is political will. So in 2017 in the Northern Territory, we recorded the worlds highest rate of rheumatic fever ever in history. In Australia or overseas. In fact, there's nothing we have done to date in Australia to try to reduce the rate of rheumatic fever.

I would like to ask our politician and friends in Canberra to open their eyes, open their hearts and minds to the living circumstances in remote and rural Australia.

I would say we at least need to double the services that we have on the ground.
