VADODARA: She may not have seen Prime Minister Narendra Modi or US President Donald Trump or even the mammoth gathering for the ‘Namaste Trump’ event at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, but what she experienced at the mega event will be memories for life for this 14-year-old blind girl from Godhra.

Happy Desai sang the famous song ‘Teri laadki main’ with celebrated folk music icon Kirtidan Gadhavi on the stage at the Namaste Trump event ahead of the arrival of Modi and Trump at the stadium. Happy was roped in for the performance only on Saturday.

Happy, who is blind from birth, had started learning music as a five-year-old. She sang at a major event for the first time earlier this year at the Panchmahotsav in Pavagadh here she performed with Parthiv Gohil where she had rendered ‘Teri laadki main’.

Happy’s father Vinod Kumar said that he got a call in the early hours on Saturday asking him if his daughter would perform at Motera Stadium. “I agreed and at around 8.30am, I was asked to reach Ahmedabad by 3pm on Saturday itself,” said Vinod who is a teacher at a government primary school. He added that a rehearsal took place on the same day in the night.

The girl said that she did feel nervous while performing at the event.

“I could feel the crowd. I had never expected to sing at such an event. It seemed as if I was having a dream,” said Happy.

Seeing her interest in music, her father is planning to support her and encourage her.

“I wish she does a PhD in vocal music,” he said.
