"The mountains proclaim the glory of God!"

The cloistered Poor Clare contemplative nuns of the Colettine reform in Roswell, New Mexico practice the ancient form of life handed on to them by Saint Clare, the 'little plant' of the great Saint Francis of Assisi. Their enclosure makes their life of praying for souls without unnecessary distractions possible. They rise at midnight to pray for souls, go barefoot year round, fast perpetually, and fulfill other aspects of their life which Saint Clare laid out for her daughters in her Holy Rule and Saint Colette expanded upon in her constitutions for the nuns. Yet with all these penances and sacrifices, the Poor Clare nuns are a joyous reflection of Saint Francis who, as Mother Mary Francis of the Roswell Monastery said, was "the man whom all the world loved, but we are privileged to call Father."

Mother Mary Francis, who went to her eternal reward in 2006, wrote a humorous and insightful book on the life of the Roswell Poor Clare nuns. A Right to Be Merry looks deep into the joys and struggles, trials and triumphs of modern day cloistered nuns.
