India and Russia on Friday reaffirmed their strong alignment on global governance reforms, especially the urgent need to restructure the United Nations Security Council to better reflect contemporary geopolitical realities. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said both nations underscored how outdated structures no longer represent the current balance of power, and reiterated India’s rightful claim to a permanent seat. He emphasized that cooperation between India and Russia at key international platforms — including G20, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation — remains forward-looking and focused on building a more inclusive and multipolar world order. The two sides expressed commitment to strengthening coordination on global issues ranging from security to sustainable development.
