Critical steam turbine blade redesign, increases reliability and production

The acquisition of any highly engineered plant comes with the challenges of adopting and adapting to assets with unknown history or reliability track record. Turning to an Independent Service Provider (ISP) with best-in-class technology and engineering solutions is the best approach – both to time and costs saving. For our client, their new steam turbine set back the ammonia site due to critical rotor blade failure. Although having a spare unit, the plant production rate was compromised. Our client looked to Sulzer for its expertise in failure analysis. Sulzer engineered and implemented a solution to modify the blade design, which mitigated future failure and restored plant production rate.
