【Pls look at the top comment first】Rock n roll from Japan always stands out from Asia and has been welcome worldwide. In the past decades, numerous Japanese rockers have been known by global fans with their first-rate and influential positions in rock industry. Here Blindman should be a living legend, symbolizing the top-class Japanese metal monument.
It is no exaggeration to say that Blindman should become a worldwide legend and should be accepted by the majority of metal and hard rock fans from all over the world. It is because they have made a big difference among Japanese rock, who stand out from many other Japanese bands by epic creations and aim to follow the way of western metal essence. Before I saw the band, I could not imagine these typical melodic metal and hard rock gems come from a group of Japanese rockers from Tokyo because of their English performance and western musical route penetrating into their music from each album.
As a band formed in 1995 including 3 founding members who have played vital roles, Tatsuya Nakamura (中村 達也 guitars), Manabu Takaya (高谷 学 vocals) and Tatsuya Toda (戸田 達也 bass), Blindman has experienced line-up changes for several times on bass, drums, keyboards and even vocals.
From 1998 to present, Blindman is a prolific band with 14 albums including the studio records and the live records. The biggest difference that Blindman has from many other Japanese rockers is that they keep on English creating and performing. Since the beginning, Blindman has chosen their musical route, featuring the revival of global metal and hard rock.
Here vocalist Manabu Takaya is an impressive name from Blindman. As one of the founding members, he performed in Blindman with lots of epic albums until the band's 2012 album "Blazing Crisis", the last release featuring Takaya on vocals, who left the band in 2014. For whoever hears his voice firstly, that is really stirring, shaking everybody in the heart as a combination of various rock legends from western countries. Of course all the members from Blindman are deeply influenced by metal and hard rock from the West.
Japanese rock has been enriched by numerous metal and hard rock legends since the early 1980s, but it is rare to see a Japanese band performing in English with pure hard rock features taken from all the traditional hard rock elements from the West. Blindman made it, making a miracle on Japanese rock n roll.
The current vocalist is Ray, who joined the band in 2016. Preciously, Blindman keeps on English performing. Compared to Manabu Takaya's mighty, powerful and manly voice, Ray's voice sounds polished and sharp, so close to those 1980s hair metal legends from western countries. Ray has opened a new page for Blindman with the band's legendary leader, guitarist Tatsuya Nakamura.
The works from Blindman always symbolize power, speed and strong beats. However, there must be melodious gems from the band for every melodic rock fan. As long as they perform melodious tunes, that must be the everlasting masterpiece for all. This song "Turn Around On The Heat" taken from their 2008 album "Subconscious In Xperience" will never become disappointing.
Compared to many other epic releases from Blindman, "Subconscious In Xperience (2008)" is rarely mentioned and underrated, because during those periods of time, the band was undergoing line-up transition with only four members since former keyboardist Kennosuke Inoue's departure while current keyboardist Hiroki Matsui hadn't joined the band. Blindman's gripping sounds stand out because of splendid keys, so this song is really attractive and precious to me.
The solos by Tatsuya Nakamura always push the song to its climax. He has proved his talent as a composer, melody-maker and of course a guitarist and produced wider style of music while keeping their signature melodic metal and hard rock genres. It is his creations that make Blindman's musical works sound like the revivals of worldwide rock gems. From the beginning to present and from the debut to the lastest album in 2020 called "Expansion", Tatsuya Nakamura is the only member who has never been replaced on the role as the guitarist and the band's leader, collaborating well with both his old and new mates. Musically, I trust the 1980s taste has been deeply rooted in Nakamura's mind, so have other band members.
They had a great deal of live concerts that can be heard online, fronted by either Manabu Takaya or Ray, filled with passion and triggering every flaming heart to follow their rock spirits. Today, they still actively perform on stage. For whoever is fond of Sinner, Savatage, Riot, Leatherwolf, Heavy Bones, Lynch Mob, Black Sabbath/Tony Martin and the like, don't miss Japanese Blindman fearuting outstanding western melodic metal taste. Music is boundless for the world and rock spirit is the everlasting treasure for burning souls from every corner of the world.
