For decades, golfers have been told the game is as much mental as it is physical. But experts now say one of the simplest ways to improve performance on the course—and prevent injuries—comes down to something often overlooked: stretching.

Golf might not seem as physically demanding as sports like football or basketball, but the repetitive swinging motion, rotational torque, and hours spent walking or standing put unique strain on the body. According to sports medicine specialists, the lower back, hips, shoulders, and wrists are especially vulnerable.

Experts say without proper flexibility, players risk muscle strain, joint pain, and even chronic injuries that could take them off the course.

Stretching before and after a round helps increase mobility, improve balance, and maintain a fluid swing. Research has also shown that golfers with better flexibility are able to generate more clubhead speed, leading to longer drives and more consistent ball striking.
