In the last video, we looked at Plotly Dash choroplethmapbox map. It had some interactivity. We could hover over various country polygons and view the hover text that was displayed. The hover text consisted of the country code and the average diamond price/carat.

In this video, we will take interactivity to the next level. We will display additional details of a country by displaying text in a box on the right side of the map. The text changes based on which country polygon is clicked on the map.

Key interactivity features of this Plotly Dash app are:

Highlight a single country polygon
This Plotly Dash app enables highlighting a single country on the map by clicking on it. This helps to create visual focus. As an example, if I want the focus to be on Lesotho, I can click on the Lesotho polygon on the map. If I want the focus to be on Russia, I can click on Russia. By toggling, I can turn the highlighting ON or OFF.

Button to toggle between map and image
A button above the text box is used to toggle between the map and the image. Let’s take the example of Lesotho. First select Lesotho. Then click on the ‘image’ button. Note how clicking on the ‘image’ button toggles the space between the map and the image. The image that is displayed always relates to the currently selected country.
