During the holidays there are many things YOU SHOULD NOT DO online!

Fake shipping notifications – Even if the order mentioned in the email doesn’t look familiar to you, you might still click the link out of concern that your account has been compromised. Instead, go to the retailer or shipper’s site directly and log in to your account to check any open orders or tracking numbers.

URL Clicks - Don’t click that deal! If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Call your local retailer or inquire with customer service before clicking that deal. Also, ask yourself, “Did I sign up for emails from this retailer? Did I ever supply my email address to this site?” If the answer is “No,” then immediately delete or report that phish.

Type in the URLs of your favorite holiday shopping sites manually, and only click top-ranked search results when browsing. This precaution will prevent any “malicious” links with executable codes from installing something nasty on your computer or device.

Scam Reports and Sales Reporting!
Always be vigilant. Your local and national news channels as well as sites like the Better Business Bureau will be reporting on the latest scams. The Federal Trade Commission has a running list of Scam Alerts and useful tips on how to avoid them.

Yes, we all get excited to buy buy buy especially technology for home and business. The problem this year is most systems come with Windows 11! That’s great if you are home user and not running accounting software (Quickbooks/Quicken/etc). Note that Most vendors of applications have not yet converted their programs to windows 11. Copy the message and forward it to 7726 (SPAM).

What To Do About Spam Text Messages

If you think the message might be real, contact the company using a phone number or website you know is real. Not the information in the text message.

Through your wireless provider

Your wireless provider may have a tool or service that lets you block calls and text messages. Check ctia.org, a website for the wireless industry, to learn about the options from different providers.

With a call-blocking app

Some call-blocking apps also let you block unwanted text messages. Go to ctia.org for a list of call-blocking apps for Android, BlackBerry, Apple, and Windows phones.
