Marking a historic shift in Arunachal Pradesh's industrial landscape, Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Namchik–Namphuk central coal block in Changlang district, which is set to become the state’s first commercial coal mine. This revival, after decades of delays, aims to replace unregulated extraction with scientific mining, ensuring energy security and unlocking significant economic benefits. With an estimated reserve of 1.5 crore tonnes, the project is projected to generate over ₹100 crore in annual revenue for Arunachal Pradesh and promises employment and development for the local population through the District Mineral Fund (DMF), aligning with India's wider strategy to boost the industrial base of the Northeast, where critical mineral blocks are also currently being auctioned.
