Do You Need a Hanger Extension?

What do you need to fit a wide range cassette?

When you upgrade to a big cassette, you need to figure out the cage length of the derailleur and also a hanger extension in order to have enough clearance to shift to the biggest cogs.

A long cage derailleur has best clearance between the derailleur and cassette and has a maximum chain capacity of 44T range depending on the brand and model. You must choose the right one to fit with your new cassette.

To go any larger ranging cassettes like 11-50T, you need a hanger extension on top of that.

This hanger extender is another level, it will extend the length of the derailleur to 28.9mm and it’s compatible with up to 52T cassette.

The cable tension has to be readjusted.

The shifting is great and it has now more than enough clearance between the cassette and derailleur.
