What is Area & Its boundary ||Class 5 || chapter - 11?
Area:
The space occupied by an object is called its area.
Area of a square = side x side = s x s
Area of a rectangle = length x breadth = l x b
Note : We can find the area of rectangle and square by splitting them
into small boxes of 1 cm x 1 cm.
Perimeter (Boundary)
The total length of all sides of a shape is called its perimeter or
boundary of the shape.
Eg: 1) A square has 4 sides.
Perimeter of a square = side + side + side + side = 4 x side
2) A rectangle has two lengths and 2 breadths.
Perimeter of a rectangle = length + length + breadth +breadth
= l + l + b + b = 2l + 2b = 2 (l +b)
