Go is a simple and fast programming language that's booming in popularity... but how is it when it comes to Game Development? There isn't a big community of Go game developers, but there are some options, like the Ebitengine. Ebitengine is an open source 2d game engine that makes strong claims, but isn't heavily used. No time like the present to try out emerging tools though, so today I make a game using Go and the Ebitengine myself to see what its really all about.

Ebitengine is a 2D Open source game engine created by developer Hajime Hoshi based out of Tokyo Japan. Go or Golang is a programming language created by Google to offer a performant and simple to use language for building applications. It is tailored for inexperienced developers to jump into and immediately be able to contribute. It has a phenomenal concurrency model, but is ultimately not a first choice for Game Development. That doesn't make it a bad pick at all though, atleast I would assume that. Garbage collection is always going to be a criticism compared to C/C++ but that doesn't have to be the only deciding factor. The only way to see if it is a viable tool, is to try it!
