Cars 308 and 309 make up an inbound South Shore Line train from Michigan City-Carroll Ave, as they stop at the 55th St end of the platform- the 55th-56th-57th Street station has entrances on all those streets, and is the most major station for Chicago's affluent south side Hyde Park neighbourhood on Metra's ex-Illinois Central Electric District, along with the 51st-53rd St and 59th St- University of Chicago stations.

A four-car deadhead move comes next, bypassing the station, with an eight-car South Shore Line train comes in for its stop here on its way to South Bend following close behind.

A four-car Blue Island train is next, followed by an odd seven-car express train for University Park, followed by a very short two-car train for the 93rd-South Chicago branch, which makes its station stop at 55th-56th-57th.

Next, arriving all at once, are an outbound South Shore Line train for South Bend, an inbound University Park train on the outer, express tracks, and an inbound South Chicago local on the inner tracks.

Lastly, Amtrak's southbound Illini, to Champaign and Carbondale downstate, speeds past the station, with P42DC #27 leading 6 cars, and P42DC #128 trailing.
