Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. read the oath in the city school board meeting Thursday evening local time.

Family members were also with him in the swearing-in ceremony. A large number of people from different communities gathered in the hall and congratulated him with applause and cheers.

Last November, Subrata Chowdhury made history by becoming the first Asian-American to win a second term in the Atlantic City School Board election with the most votes.

Known as Casino City in the state of New Jersey, Bangladeshis are the most involved in mainstream politics and administration among the South Asian community.

Subrata Chowdhury came to the United States with his family in 2012 with immigrant status. he works as a Human Services Specialist for Atlantic County Government.

Earlier in January 2020, he also took the oath by placing his hands on the holy four scriptures while taking oath as a member of the Atlantic City School Board.
