Although science and the humanities have been considered to be disparate fields, Dr Bitasta Das shows us how their unlikely interplay creates wonderful results. From disseminating science concepts through folk arts to making scientists deeply aware of their roots, this talk takes us through the best practices one can take to truly humanise science discourse.
Dr. Bitasta Das, a visionary in pedagogy, has worked at the forefront of harmonizing folk art and science. She is passionate about creating a dialogue within this often-misunderstood dichotomy. A humanities instructor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, she is deeply involved in promulgating folk knowledge through her work. She teaches a humanities paper on “Mapping India with the Folk Arts” to the undergraduate students of IISc.

Her book “Arting Science” is lauded as a pioneer work on communicating science with Indian folk art. A member of the Chhattisgarh State Planning Commission, she has been invited to deliver lectures at several institutes in India and abroad. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
