It came a day after his top general lambasted cuts to defence spending announced in this week''s budget. De villiers told a parliamentary committee that the planned cuts to defence spending of 850 million euros by the end of the year were not feasible given current commitments at home and abroad. "I won''t let myself be messed with like that…I may be stupid, but I know when I''m being had."Macron insists the spending cuts, enforced to help reduce the country'' budget deficit, will not put soldiers lives at risk.
