This audio problem is well known in the Hero 9 community. It only happens with the cam's internal microphone, and there is no setting or firmware update that will solve it because it's a hardware defect.

The crackling or popping noise happens mainly at the beginning of the footage, which is why GoPro recommends waiting 2 to 3 minutes prior to filming. But for an action cam, this is a silly workaround; and GoPro should proactively present a viable solution for its users.

The Swiss consumer magazine, K-Tipp (https://www.ktipp.ch/), reviewed my case and published an article on page 13 of issue 12/2022.

During the time it took for the audio issue to be resolved, I owned three different GoPro Hero 9 cameras with the following serial numbers (the last digit is replaced with an X):
1. bad: C344135009472X
2. bad: C344132619064X
3. good: C344132740561X
