In this video, we will learn about the Production of Continuous X-Ray Spectrum, a key concept in understanding how x rays are generated in high-energy systems. X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation with extremely short wavelength and high frequency, falling beyond the ultraviolet region in the electromagnetic spectrum.

The process begins when high-speed electrons, carrying a negative charge, are accelerated and directed towards a metal target like tungsten. As these electrons collide with the nucleus of tungsten atoms, the coulomb force causes sudden electron bending and deacceleration. This rapid change in motion leads to the emission of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation—a process explained by electromagnetic theory.

This emitted radiation is called bremsstrahlung or braking radiation, forming a continuous range of x ray wavelengths. According to quantum theory, these x-rays are made up of photons or energy packets, and their energy can be calculated using the equation E = hf, where h is Planck's constant and f is the frequency. The relationship between speed of light, wavelength, and frequency also helps in determining the characteristics of the spectrum.
