The pace of technological innovation is accelerating rapidly. Science fictions most radical vision of the future is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy. Walter’s Law states that “any idea described in sci-fi will on a long enough timescale be made real by science”. Technological progress, while perhaps intended for human betterment, might lead to a new kind of existential threat in the form of self-improving artificial intelligence (AI). Who will look out for the interests of human kind as technology develops?

In an adaptation of Alex Garland’s science fiction film Ex Machina (2015), Singularity, tells the story of a fully humanoid artificial intelligence undergoing a live ‘Turing Test’ in a bid to prove true AI exists.
