Daredevil: Born Again is an upcoming American television series created by Dario Scardapane and Matt Corman & Chris Ord for the streaming service Disney+, based on Marvel Comics featuring the character Daredevil. It is intended to be the 13th television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, via its Marvel Television label, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. Born Again is a revival and continuation of Daredevil (2015–2018), an earlier series produced by the previous Marvel Television production company and originally released on Netflix. Scardapane serves as showrunner with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as lead directors.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock / Daredevil from Marvel's Netflix television series and prior Marvel Studios productions, with Vincent D'Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki M. James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer, Jon Bernthal, Wilson Bethel, and Jeremy Earl also starring. Following the cancellation of Daredevil in 2018, Cox and D'Onofrio reprised their roles in Marvel Studios projects starting in 2021, and a new Daredevil series was revealed to be in development by March 2022. Corman and Ord were hired as head writers by that May, giving the series an episodic structure and lighter tone than the Netflix series. Born Again was announced in July with a planned 18-episode first season. The series' name references the "Born Again" comic book storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Filming began in early March 2023 in New York, but was suspended in June due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.
Marvel Studios decided to overhaul the series by late September 2023 and released Corman, Ord, and the initial directors, though Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd are still credited for episodes they had directed. Scardapane, Benson, and Moorhead were hired the following month, and the approach changed to be serialized and more directly connected to the Netflix series. Filming for a nine-episode first season resumed in January 2024 and wrapped in April. A second season was confirmed that August, with filming set to begin by March 2025.
Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, with a nine-episode first season. It will be part of Phase Five of the MCU.
Wilson Grant Fisk is a powerful businessman and crime lord with a controlling interest in New York City. Decades after he murdered his abusive father when he was a child, Fisk formed alliances with other criminal enterprises and used the aftermath of the Battle of New York to gain power in the city, as he attempted to rebuild Hell's Kitchen by destroying and gentrifying it. His criminal activities brought him into conflict with Daredevil, as well as some of his partners who betrayed him, and he was arrested after his actions were leaked to the FBI. Within Ryker's Island, Fisk came to run the prison and sought to destroy his crime competition in New York by the time he was freed. Fisk aided with Punisher's escape, as he desired for him to eliminate competing criminal empires, and embraced being Kingpin, putting him back in conflict with Nelson and Murdock who had sought to send him to prison.
Desiring his freedom, Fisk initiated a plan to exploit the FBI by exposing criminals in New York City in exchange for being held at the Presidential Hotel, where Fisk could continue all of his criminal activities while focusing most of his efforts on exposing Matt Murdock as Daredevil. From his new position of strength, Fisk began to blackmail and to manipulate several FBI agents, including Benjamin Poindexter, to aid him with framing Daredevil as a terrorist, while Fisk also ensured that his name was cleared within the eyes of the law so that Vanessa Marianna could return to the city. However, Fisk's schemes were thwarted by a posthumous testimony from Ray Nadeem, while Poindexter learned about Fisk's manipulation of him. Daredevil then defeated Fisk, resulting in Fisk's return into prison.
