Salzburg Research is one of Austria’s leading research and technology organizations. Salzburg Research is recognized for its methods and technologies in the valorization of motion data, short Motion Data Intelligence.

The Mobility and Transport Analytics group develops and evaluates methods and software-as-a-service tools for more sustainable, environmental-friendly and efficient mobility and transport systems. The portfolio enables customers to valorize their motion data or to develop own products or services.

Success stories for valorizing motion data:

In traffic management, our core competencies help road operators or city administrations to analyse and interpret traffic data. For example, for the Austrian National Traffic Data Platform EVIS we process 40 million sensor values daily. This real-time dataset enables the Austrian road operators to accurately derive states or to conduct post analysis of unexpected traffic situations. Furthermore, our know-how contributes to the establishment of an integrated traffic management platform for the wider Stuttgart Area. Salzburg Research has been selected to implement a high-performance database solution for storing years of real-time traffic data which can be interactively analysed by traffic engineers.

Salzburg Research also contributes to the field of automated and connected mobility. For example, we initiated and coordinated Austria’s flagship project Digibus® Austria. Together with twelve partners from academia and industry, Digibus® Austria developed and tested major building blocks for automated public transport systems.
Among other things, we developed and tested cooperative ITS services for automated vehicles, such as improved localization or infrastructure to vehicle communication. The open-source software-as-a-service solution Graphium offers functionalities for valorizing high-definition local dynamic maps.

Another research focus addresses active mobility, especially data-driven technologies supporting safe and efficient cycling. For evaluating the quality of bicycle infrastructures, Salzburg Research offers a Smartphone-based service. The sensor-data based analysis helps to monitor the cycling infrastructure’s condition and to focus maintenance work on the most battered parts.
We develop and evaluate technologies for connecting bicycles to automated vehicles, with an emphasis on collision detection and warning concepts for safer cycling. A smart connected bicycle is part of our research infrastructure, ready for new and innovative cycling projects.
