this video highlights a rare and powerful herostone inscription discovered in the agricultural fields of navalai village, pappireddipatti taluk, dharmapuri district, tamil nadu. the inscription, written in old kannada script and dated to the 9th–10th century ce, belongs to the period of the nolamba dynasty.
the herostone records the heroic death of pṛituva, son of kshatriya puliyaṇṇa, who sacrificed his life while fighting enemy soldiers to protect a woman from molestation. during ancient times, such acts of bravery were commemorated by erecting memorial stones for fallen warriors. these brave protectors were referred to as kshatriyas, a title mentioned for both father and son in this inscription.
this rare record reflects the social conditions, warrior ethics, and honor-based memorial traditions of early medieval south india, making it an important piece of epigraphical and cultural history.
