The fashion mogul confirmed that her and Joel Madden’s daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden doesn’t actually use her given first name and instead opts to be called Kate. “She goes by her middle name," Nicole told People in an interview published Jan. 15. "She has her whole life.” Fans were surprised to learn about the teen’s preferred name—which Nicole revealed publicly in her Jan. 12 Instagram post for Kate's 18th birthday—and the 44-year-old can understand why. "I didn't look, but it makes sense," Nicole said of the online reaction to her post. “She goes by her middle name." On the Instagram post in question, the Simple Life alum shared several snaps of her daughter through the years, writing in the caption, "18 years of you @katemaddennn."
