Widespread Sit-in-Protest Staged in Imphal Valley; Demands Immediate Withdrawal of Legal Notice Against Maheshwar Thounaojam
Hundreds and thousands of people staged sit-in-protest at every nook and corner of Imphal Valley against the legal notice sent to Maheshwar Thounaojam, a social worker based in Imphal, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The protestors generally demand immediate withdrawal of the legal notice and removal of Assam Rifles from the state. They also demanded the implementation of NRC in the state.
Following Maheshwar’s alleged derogatory remarks against AR during a public meeting held in New Delhi, the Assam Rifles sent a legal notice to the social worker. He also demanded total removal of Assam rifles from the state.
Maheshwar Thounaojam has been very vocal about the ongoing conflict between the Meiteis and the Kukis. And many believe him to have shifted the entire narrative of the conflict in favour of the Meiteis against all forms of propangandas, the Kukis-Zo community have been making all these months.
