The gas migration tube model was developed to demonstrate the volume and pressure responses as gas bubble migrates up a fluid column. Seeing these changes first-hand provides powerful reinforcement of gas behaviour theory … and the ability to control the pace of bubble migration in a closed or open system reinforces the importance of correct well control responses.

Advanced versions of the gas migration tube model are equipped with an inner string, a positive displacement pump with mud pit, circulating manifold and choke system to simulate well circulation. The pressure and volume changes observed during operation of these models provides clarification and understanding of critical well control principles.
