2024 Update: This is a legacy video! Meaning that much of the information in this video has been updated as it's been many years since I published this video. I didn't want to completely remove this resource, but for best results I would recommend learning from a more complete and up to date resource.

2018: Does your horse dance around at the mounting block or when mounting from the ground? Do they step away, back up, walk forward and just not stand still for mounting in general? In this video I'm giving you a quick look at how you can fix this problem with clicker training. Keep in mind that you need to introduce clicker training to your horse in a safe way with a "manners first" approach prior to working on mounting behaviors. Also, like I mention in the video, there is always a root cause to why a horse doesn't want to have a rider get on. Sometimes it's physical and sometimes it's mental, and... sometimes it's both. Don't just assume your horse is being difficult on purpose, there is either something wrong or the horse simply just doesn't understand what's expected of him. This is where the power of positive reinforcement and clicker training step in. Clicker training offers a clear, instant, and positive approach for training behaviors we would like to see in our horses.

Before you get started though, please read this article. DO NOT start clicker training without preparing first. You wouldn't ride a horse for the first time without instruction or take lessons before jumping or vaulting, clicker training is no different from everything else in the horse world. You can do it right, or you can do it wrong.
