Breaking news: The Supreme Court has ordered the formation of an expert committee to examine mining and allied activities in the Aravalli hills. Observing that illegal mining could cause irreversible environmental damage, the apex court has sought names of environmentalists and forest experts for the panel. The Court has also received an assurance from the Rajasthan government that no mining will be permitted in the Aravalli region. The interim order protecting the hills will continue, and further hearings are scheduled after four weeks.
