End of an Era: GE Centercabs Haul Revenue Freight on the Arcade & Attica Railroad! 6/8/2023

The last “common carrier” railroad in the United States to operate both passenger and freight, the Arcade & Attica railroad has made quite the name for themselves over the years.

One of the reasons railfans are drawn to this shortline, was the consistent usage of General Electric Centercab style locomotives on revenue freight trains. In 2023, the railroad announced the purchase of Western New York & Pennsylvania’s ALCO RS3M 406, to replace the Centercabs on freight trains. With the clock counting down on this weekly operation, we set out to document a day on the ARA the best we could before change was fully in effect.

Although the Centercabs no longer haul freight that often, they are still used often in passenger service between Arcade and Curriers Station.
