Prishtina is a fast-changing urban centre at the crossroads between the East and the West, and its turbulent history is written and re-written through its urban landscape. It is a cross-section of its Ottoman legacy, its brief Italian and Austro-Hungarian past, its Modernist period during the Former Yugoslav years, and its recent transformation due to neoliberal policies of privatisation of its public space. Today, Prishtina is a mix of modernist, oriental and postmodern characteristics.

Manifesta aims to support the citizens of Kosovo in their ambition to reclaim public space, while creating new interdisciplinary environments ranging from the arts, to education and urbanism.

This edition’s first step will be the commissioning of multifaceted urban study, to analyse the city’s historical context and present realities, and aims to provide the citizens of Prishtina with the tools to imagine the future of their city.
